Destruction of Over 3.2 Million Hazardous Medicines, Including “Dok-1 Max,” Begins in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Main Directorate of the Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement in Tashkent has begun the destruction of over 3.2 million units of pharmaceutical products stored at LLC “Quramax Medical” and customs warehouses, in accordance with an enforcement order issued by the Tashkent City Criminal Court, the Bureau’s press service reports.

Special attention is being given to the syrup “Dok-1 Max,” which has been linked to the deaths of at least 68 children in Uzbekistan. Among the medicines being destroyed are 811,478 tablets and 101,669 bottles of “Dok-1 Max” syrup, as well as 2,252,796 tablets and 56,672 bottles of “Ambronol” syrup.

The destruction process involves law enforcement agencies, the sanitary-epidemiological service, the Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection, and court-appointed witnesses. The medicines are being incinerated in specialized furnaces in compliance with environmental standards to prevent harm to the environment.

Recall that the consumption of “Dok-1 Max” syrup resulted in 68 child fatalities, with 16 children suffering severe consequences and two experiencing mild effects. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against those responsible.

The head of LLC “Quramax Medical,” the official importer of the syrup, was sentenced to 20 years in prison, while the former head of the Agency for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry, Sardor Kariev, received an 18-year sentence.
