Chinese delegation explores new cargo terminal at Tashkent Airport

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from the People’s Republic of China is visiting Uzbekistan from 5 to 8 April to explore the country’s potential in multimodal cargo transportation.

As part of the visit, the Chinese delegation met with the leadership of Uzbekistan Airports. The foreign guests included the Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Jinhua City, the Mayor of Yiwu City, and the President of one of China’s largest railway operators, YiWu Timex Industrial Investment Co., Ltd.

During the meeting, the guests were introduced to the capabilities of the new cargo terminal at Tashkent International Airport.

The delegation was shown various warehouse facilities, including specialized zones for storing plants, live animals, valuable cargo, food products, and pharmaceuticals.

"The new cargo terminal was opened in late March of this year and is designed to handle approximately 120,000 tons of cargo annually. If necessary, we are ready to expand its capacity by building an additional warehouse complex. We are open to cooperation and ready to create all the necessary conditions for the development of cargo transportation. We are also ready to offer other regional airports with high logistical potential," noted Javlonbek Umarkhodjaev, Chairman of Uzbekistan Airports.

The Chinese delegation emphasized, "We view Uzbekistan as an important transit hub in the formation of a multimodal cargo transportation system from China to Europe. The country has significant potential in this area. Moreover, this is not limited to air transport; we are interested in developing multimodal solutions that combine air, road, and rail transport. In this process, we rely on the support of our strategic partner, Centrum Holding."

Delegation members also expressed particular interest in the potential of Andijan region, which, according to them, has a favorable geographical location and is the closest point to the Chinese border. During their visit, the Chinese delegation plans to visit the Andijan region to explore its potential in the development of multimodal transportation.
