Central Bank Issues Warnings and Fines to 30 Banks

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During eight meetings held in May 2025, the Banking Supervision Committee under the Central Bank of Uzbekistan reviewed 37 issues and adopted corresponding decisions.

In particular, 18 issues were examined in the area of registration and licensing. These included: approval of amendments to the charters of credit institutions (three cases), registration and removal of microfinance organizations from the official registry (four cases), issuance of permits for ownership of shares in the charter capital of credit institutions (four cases), and the assessment of candidates for supervisory boards, executive boards, and other key positions within commercial banks (seven cases).

Additionally, 19 issues were reviewed regarding the financial condition of credit institutions. This included monitoring compliance with prudential regulations and Central Bank directives, as well as analyzing the results of inspections conducted at commercial banks and microfinance organizations.

The Committee highlighted instances of non-compliance with legislation concerning the minimum charter capital requirements for commercial banks. It also noted that, in several cases, local banks failed to implement their action plans aimed at recovering problematic loans and reducing outstanding debt levels. As a result, 17 commercial banks received formal warnings about the possible imposition of enforcement measures and sanctions.

Moreover, based on violations identified during investigations and on-site inspections, the Central Bank imposed monetary fines on 13 banks.
