Air Products Achieves International Quality Certifications for Food-Grade CO2 Production Management System

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At the Food Freezing and Preservation Technology Center, a formal ceremony was held to award four international certificates confirming that Air Products' food-grade CO2 production management system meets the highest international standards of purity, safety, and compliance with food industry requirements.

Following an extensive audit, Air Products received confirmation of compliance for the production and supply management of compressed and liquefied (liquid) carbon dioxide for food applications in accordance with international food safety standards:

  • FSSC 22000 –  food safety management system certification scheme for the food supply chain;
  • ISO 22000:2018 – an international standard for food safety management systems;
  • HACCP Certificate – in accordance with the recommendations of the Codex Alimentarius (CAC/RCP 1-1969, Rev. 4);
  • Halal Certificate – in compliance with the requirements of standard UAE.S GSO 2055-1:2015, issued by the certification body CERTIN HALAL.

These certificates were issued based on audits conducted by internationally recognized certification bodies, including TÜV Thüringen (Germany) and CERTIN HALAL (Uzbekistan).

"Obtaining these certifications is an important milestone in the development of our project in Uzbekistan. They confirm that our CO2 is produced in strict accordance with international standards for use in the food industry. We are confident that this achievement will open new opportunities for our customers both domestically and in export markets," - said Kirill Korotkov, Merchant General Manager of Air Products in Uzbekistan.

Among the guests of the ceremony were government representatives as well as the company’s potential clients and partners. The event program also featured a demonstration of the Food Freezing, Processing and Storage Technology Center’s capabilities. Guests were shown the operation of the Air Products shock-freezing production line using fresh fruits and vegetables. The demonstration concluded with a tasting session, clearly illustrating how the technology preserves the natural taste, color, and nutritional value of food products.

The Food Freezing, Processing and Storage Technology Center serves as Air Products’ demonstration and training platform, where food producers can explore modern applications of CO₂ and liquid nitrogen in the food industry.

The Navoi plant is Air Products’ first food-grade CO₂ production project in Central Asia. The state-of-the-art facility captures CO₂ from an ammonia production line at Navoiazot, one of the region’s leading chemical manufacturers, and purifies and liquefies it for food applications. With an impressive capacity of 120 tons per day, the plant is not only the largest and most advanced of its kind in Uzbekistan but also the first facility in the country to produce food-grade CO₂ with a proven purity level of 99.99%.
