Uzbekistan Hailed as Top IPU Partner at Geneva Talks

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Senate Chairwoman Tanzila Narbaeva met Inter-Parliamentary Union Secretary-General Martin Chungong in Geneva, where both sides reviewed the current state of Uzbekistan–IPU relations and charted a course for deeper engagement, Uzbekistan's upper house announced Monday.

Chungong used the meeting to offer an unambiguous endorsement: Uzbekistan, he said, ranks among the IPU's most active and dependable partners. He credited the reforms carried out in the country over recent years with meaningfully strengthening the republic's parliamentary institutions.

The Secretary-General also highlighted Uzbekistan's transparency in parliamentary operations and its consistent engagement in international initiatives as markers of the country's democratic trajectory.

A specific area of international recognition emerged during the talks: Uzbekistan's model for parliamentary oversight of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. That track record, reinforced by major international forums previously hosted in Bukhara and Tashkent, has cemented Uzbekistan's credibility as a convener of substantive parliamentary dialogue.

The meeting converged with the broader Geneva diplomatic sprint Narbaeva is conducting this week. Both the IPU and ILO talks — held on the sidelines of the 114th International Labour Conference — pointed to the same near-term priority: the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, set for September 4–6 in Samarkand. Both organizations have now signaled active participation.

The two sides closed the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to continued partnership and joint initiatives under the Uzbekistan–IPU cooperation framework.
